Dr Antony Lighten is a leader in the fertility field with more than 20 years of experience.
He trained at the UK’s top 3 most prestigious medical institutions. He graduated from Cambridge University Medical School, has a PhD at Imperial College in London and completed his sub-specialty training at the Oxford University Fertility Unit. All three institutions are consistently rated amongst the world's best.
Dr Lighten is doubly qualified as both a medical doctor and a science PhD. He has several publications in genetics, embryo development and PCOS. He has been awarded several prizes for his research including a prestigious prize from the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology.
Dr Lighten is affiliated to the Genea fertility clinic whose IVF laboratories are consistently achieving world class pregnancy rates. He is the Clinical Director of Genea Northwest and also sits on the advisory board of Merck Serono Australia. Dr Lighten is passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients.
He encourages all his patients to be aware of the importance of weight, exercise and lifestyle when trying to conceive. This has contributed to his consistently high success rates. Dr Lighten is a fertility surgeon specialising in surgical procedures which improve both the chance of both spontaneous pregnancy and pregnancy after IVF. Fertility operations are performed at Northwest Private Hospital.
Outside of medicine Dr Lighten is a keen sportsman. He represented Great Britain as a junior and Cambridge University at rowing. He also served as a doctor in the UK Reserve Airbourne Forces and Special Forces. Since moving to Australia, Dr Lighten has taken up the more Australian pastimes of surfing, paddle boarding and ocean swimming.
